My Top 3 Priorities

  • I will do all I can to protect the environment, first, by banning fracking.
  • I will be active in working on our housing and homeless problem.
  • I will work on having a $15 minimum wage in our county.

Community Activities

Administrator and organizer for the Monterey Bay Bernie Sanders campaign, Monterey Bay for Bernie Sanders (2015–current)

I have been a teacher for over twenty-four years, including a two year assignment in Panama, teaching environmental education to Panamanian teachers. Teaching is a wonderful profession, and it allows me to be creative and encourage a love of learning.

I have had all sorts of jobs, as I didnt' get my teaching credential until 1989. I worked with the California Conservation Corps, building trails, fighting fires, and planting trees. I have also worked as a landscaper, a pre-school teacher, a travel agent, and a counselor in a rehab group home for teenagers. In fact, that is how I paid for my college education way back when!

These experiences have made me a well-rounded person. It also reinforces my desire to work for a $15 minimum wage in Monterey County and California. I worked extremely hard at these jobs, and always lived hand to mouth.  That's not right.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I believe that every citizen has a voice, and that we need to listen to them. However, we must respect our Democracy and what it stands for. There is a reason that there is a separation of church and state, and I fear the crumbling of that wall. It would disenfranchise millions of Americans.

Democracy is an active process, and we should have more opportunities for people to participate. I would like to see more information based on the issues and not the gossip surrounding candidates. We have some very serious problems in Monterey and California, and we need to bicker less for power, and unite more to help our planet and to solve these problems.

I believe that power corrupts, and so term limits are a good idea. Fresh ideas from energized candidates will make our country better, and will make politiicians more accountable to people.

Most of all, I believe that we must do a better job of teaching ALL our citizens about the importance of voting, and of being involved in our Democracy.
