The characteristics necessary for a good judge include, knowledge, experience, decisiveness, courage and judicial temperament. Ifa  voter looks to a candidates experience they can be informed if the candidate as the at least the minimal qualifications to be competent judge. For example I've been a deputy district attorney for twenty-seven years with various assignments throughout Los Angeles County. I've tried different types of cases, including murder, sex crimes, domestic violence, gang cases and major narcotics. I've also been assigned to various assignments with a wide range of responsibilities and the require different skills. For example I've been in the Environmental Crimes Unit and a supervisor for over approximately seven years. I trained newly hired attorneys in the office. I was tasked that these attorneys became well versed om the law, trial straegies and how to evlauate cases and ensure justice.

The first thing that a judge a can do is run an efficient court. Allowing emdless continuances on cases clutters the courts and makes court access to all people difficult. Ensuring a fair trial or day in court to all people also helps assure legal access.

Too many people are held in custody before trial because of their economic conditions. A recent case held that a person's financial situation should be considered in determining bail. Others factors to be considered are safety to the community and securing the defendant's appearance in court.

When dealing with the liberty of indivuals we should always consider ways to improve the system. An honest dialogue needs to be conducted with all the justice partners and community leaders to explore the best options.
