Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Your interests matter, and you have the right to demand more from your elected officials. To ensure your concerns are addressed, Baz will focus on issues at both the state and local levels. Baz intends to:

- Update the Homeowners' Property Tax Exemption. The passing of Proposition 13 placed a cap on property tax increases for a homeowner's residence, allowing them to budget and plan for the future. The homeowner's property tax exemption was likewise intended to make home ownership more affordable for Californians. Unfortunately, while the homeowner's exemption was helpful in 1974 when the median home value was $35,000, it is now 2018 and the median home value is nearing $500,000 - meaning the benefits of the exemption have all but disappeared. Baz intends to put in place an updated homeowner's exemption that will benefit homeowners as it was indended.

- Look to local vendors for local products and services. Baz will work with vendors in the community before outsourcing taxpayer dollars to other counties. Your tax dollars should go to services that benefit you and the greater Santa Barbara County.

- Increase voter registration. With a specific goal to increase voting by seniors, youth, the mobile home community, and working parents, Baz will work to ensure that County voters have the tools, information and access they need to participate in the election process.

- Ensure that all property tax assessments are fair, accurate and timely in preparation for enrollment to the annual assessment roll to ensure appropriate funding for public services. Baz will also work to reduce the property tax burden on small businesses, low-income seniors, and non profit groups while implementing an extensive property tax public education program.

- Increase customer service, efficiency, transparency, and accessibility to residents in all parts of the county. One way Baz will accomplish this is to re-open the Lompoc branch office, the closure of which has left much of the county without local services placing a burden on those residents.
