Candidate Statement

Summary

Breif sumary of Education, Qualifications and Goals

I have dedicated 40 years to education, serving as a teacher, student advocate, and president of Chabot College, before retiring in 2008.  I believe in public service and have served on the boards of St. Rose Hospital and Sun Gallery, volunteered with Rotary, and led my Hayward homeowner’s association. This experience drives my desire to see an effective, respected Hayward Unified School District Board.  I am concerned about the ongoing turbulence at HUSD. I have spent years working directly with school boards to achieve results that release the full potential of students. If you elect me, I will use my education, skills and experience to help rebuild trust in the Board.  I will bring intelligence and good ideas, be a good listener, and respect different viewpoints.  I will do my homework and give the time and energy necessary to be an effective trustee.  My leadership will help the Board create a shared vision for success, maintain a positive work climate, set priorities that deliver results, and provide accountability to the public. HUSD will put students first with quality Board leadership. Help me take that step - for our students, for our community. Vote Carlson on November 8.
