Biografía

I have spent the past 15 years in south Orange County involved in and with the institutions of the South OC Community College District.  My family has ties to the schools.  My eldest daughter, upon moving here with us in 2001, took some basic courses at Saddleback College that she needed to transfer to the University of South Carolina.  She graduated from there and is now finishing a Masters Degree in Public Health at Benedictine University, Chicago.  My son is taking courses in Auto Technology at Saddleback and is looking forward to a career in the automotive industry.  My wife had a successful career in the 70s and 80s in broadcast television.  Here in OC, she took broadcasting and production courses and has now started a successful documentary production company.

Personally, I've spent the past 8 years on the Saddleback College Foundation where we more than doubeld the number of students receiving scholarships and more than tripled the dollars donated to those scholarships.

I have a deep affection for the institutions of the District.  They are tremendous assets to our south OC communities, businesses and students.  I look forward to doing everything I can to further the mission of these schools and ensure the success of every student who attends.

Filosofía política

Our American system of government is based on reasoned discourse from opposing points of view.  The education of our students--from those beginning their academic or vocational careers to returning veterans to life-long learners--is critical to the long-term health of our business and civic community. It engenders strong feelings and emotions about how to reach educational and workforce goals.

I believe these often disparate voices deserve to be heard and the ideas considered because it is from this creative tension that progress comes.

I believe in balance in governance.  Right, left, administration, faculty--I believe all want the same things in terms of student success, but have different notions of how to achieve it.  It is critical that those elected are without prejudice to any one philosophy but work to represent the broadest possible spectrum of political and governing philosophy and point of view.  That kind of openness to ideas and perspectives  is what I will bring to the board.
