Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • - Recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers.
  • - Developing and supporting academic initiatives that will prepare our children for the rigors of high school and higher education.
  • - Expanding and improving our first-in-the-state dual immersion program.

Karl Truong was born in Westminster, Ca.  After having spent the first ten years of his life living in various places due to his father’s medical training, Karl’s family settled in Orange County.  Karl attended local schools and went on to earn his Bachelors of Science in Engineering at University of California of Riverside.  He went on to work in healthcare as a software developer and IT auditor.

As a result of Karl’s work within the healthcare community, he was introduced to various healthcare advocacy groups that sought to serve local patients as well as provide a unified voice to lawmakers in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.  The annual trips to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. showed him firsthand the direct results of public service.  After a rewarding externship in the Superior Court of California in Westminster under the Honorable John Nho Nguyen, Karl enrolled at Chapman University, School of Law, graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2011 and was admitted to the California Bar.

After law school, Karl was invited to work on Capitol Hill for a Member of Congress.  In D.C., Karl worked on Foreign Affairs, Education, Healthcare, and Immigration; drafting policy memorandums, background briefings, and Congressional correspondence.  Karl was entrusted with writing the Congresswoman’s speeches on Vietnam that were delivered on CSPAN and the House floor.  His work in D.C. gave him invaluable hands-on experience working within our democratic system to address the needs of the 46th/47th Congressional District, which included Westminster, Garden Grove, Anaheim, Santa Ana, and reaffirmed his passion for public service.   Karl was asked to join the Inter-American Development Bank where he provided legal & technical analysis on international development projects, and drafted key policy recommendations and reforms.

In 2013, Karl returned to Orange County and entered the private practice of law, focusing on civil litigation, immigration, and business law.  In 2015, Karl was elevated to named partner at Sullivan, Krieger, Truong, Spagnola & Klausner, LLP.  In his spare time, Karl served as chairman of the Saigon Foundation, raising funds for disaster relief in domestic areas hard hit by natural disasters and in support of the arts for the children of Westminster.  Furthermore, Karl provides pro bono legal services to needy families, including immigration counseling and defending the elderly from predatory business dealings.

Karl now seeks to put his lifetime of experience to work for the benefit of the children of Westminster by running for Westminster School Board.

As a proud member of the Westminster community for over 20 years, I am committed to making the Westminster educational system exceptional.  I am running for the board because I believe, unequivocally, in the value of public education.  I believe in the democratic process and solemnly understand that our role, as board members, is to act strategically in best interests of our students and our community.  I understand we must be dedicated to serving and teaching all children.

I received my Bachelors of Science from UC Riverside and my Juris Doctorate from Chapman University.  My degrees in engineering and law provide me with the analytical and problem solving skills to make objective, educated and practical decisions for the benefit of our district’s students.    My years of experience as an attorney has given me the experience and fortitude to tirelessly advocate on behalf of all of our children, the future of our community.  As a business owner, I understand the realities of working within the constraints of a budget and making the prudent financial decisions necessary for its long term health.

If elected, I will diligently work towards retaining highly qualified teachers, developing and supporting academic initiatives that will prepare our children for the rigors of high school and higher education, and expanding after school programs to provide students with additional enriching opportunities.

As a result, I have earned the support of: Westminster School Board President Jamison Power, Westminster School Board Member Penny Loomer, Westminster Mayor Tri Ta, Westminster Council Members Tyler Diep, Sergio Contreras, and Diana Carey, the Westminster Teachers, and the Westminster School District Classified Employees.

With the support of the residents of Westminster, I will advocate on behalf of our community and implement policies that ensure success for all students.  I hope you give me the opportunity to serve and respectfully ask for your vote come this November.
