My engineering experience spans 50 years in business (Unocal/Sunoco) and academics. Management skills developed as a military officer and in business led to my promotion to VP Technology for a $10billion company. I managed a $20million national race fuels business and dealt with 2 unions. I have taught engineering classes at the University of California since 2001; including classes on water quality/processes. I was on the OC Desalination Committee (2014/15) and a contributing author for EPA report: Achieving Clean Air and Clean Water (1998).

Childhood:

I grew up in the Midwest.  My father and grandfather were both Presbyterian Ministers.  I am the beneficiary of their frugality and discipline.  My mother taught elementary school.  I am the beneficiary of her wisdom, discretion and subtle sense of humor. I played baseball and wrestled in high school and though I was a mediocre athlete, I did manage win a varsity letter which I still have today.

Professional Experience:

I have been in business for 25 years working with public accounting firms and multinational corporations.  I advised on a number of areas including tax, financial planning, acquisitions and divestitures and strategic planning. 

Any government body must have a defined mission.  It must accomplish that mission but not overreach.  Government must work for the people while intruding as little as possible into their lives.  With respect to the Yorba Linda Water District, this means providing water and sewer services that are safe and reliable at a price that will enable the District to cover its operational costs and adequately maintain its infrastructure.
