Biografía

John, wife Jennifer (of 24 years), and teenage son Sean are longtime residents of Rancho Palos Verdes, with deep ties to the community.

John, a licensed civil engineer by profession, is a local, business owner and Chair of the Rancho Palos Verdes Planning Commission. His community involvement also extends to refereeing for AYSO and local high school involvement.

John sees community involvement as a way of helping to insure the safety, accountability, and resource preservation of our great City.  His key issues are:

  • Excellent Sheriff and Fire services
  • No budget deficits
  • Holding utility companies accountable
  • Simplified city processes
  • Strong relations with neighboring cities
  • Be YOUR Voice at City Hall

To succeed in this effort, John has been running an aggressive campaign.  There are two open seats on our 5-person Council and six declared candidates.

John’s campaign has required a strong and organized grassroots effort.  His campaign webpage is www.johncruikshank.us that links to his many community activities postings on Twitter and Facebook.  He met with all five of the current Council members to learn about their successful campaigns and has received the endorsement of three of them.  John has been inviting people to join his campaign and help make a real difference.

Professionally, John is President & CEO of JMC2 Civil Engineering + Surveying, a San Pedro based company founded in 1996.  Because of his involvement with hundreds of unique engineering projects, John leverages that experience to successfully support his client’s critical projects.  His current responsibilities include corporate leadership, client relations, business development, community outreach, and project management.  John also worked for Caltrans (Los Angeles) and two civil engineering firms prior to starting his own.

John attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he received his Bachelors of Science in Building Science in 1988.  He became a Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California in 1993.  Then, he obtained his Masters of Science in Engineering Management from USC in 1994.

In addition to his almost 30 years in civil engineering, John a Board Member and Past President of the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce (HAIC) where he formed the HAIC Workforce Development Committee.  He is also on the Board for the International Trade Education Program (ITEP).

Vote John Cruikshank for RPV City Council on November 7th to protect and enhance RPV.

Creencias poliza

Filosofía política

Having 30 years experience and 21 years as a business owner, John has learned that organizations (City hall, business, etc.) works best when they have clear direction, the right people, and rules that are clear and enforceable. Rancho Palos Verdes has been slowly blossoming for the past three decades.  Our residents live here in pride having worked hard to earn the right to call RPV their home.

John wants to be your VOICE in city hall.  He will never have his mind made up before city council meetings but will be prepared to hear vigorous public testimony and council debate.  Then, he will make decisions that he feels will be best for all of the city not just one group of people.
