Experiencia

Biografía

Kristin Washington was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in Psychology. She has been a member of the Redlands community for 12 years, spending much of that time advocating on behalf of families on issues that impact their daily lives.

Since 2015, Kristin has served as president of a non-profit organization that educates community members on local, state and national legislative issues. She is a frequent voice for the community’s support for and opposition to issues.

Employed by the not-for-profit Medi-Cal and Medicare health plan, Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), Kristin was instrumental in helping families navigate the Affordable Care Act’s enrollment and eligibility process during the healthcare law’s initial years. Thousands of low-income families throughout the Inland Empire gained access to healthcare due to her work. Currently Kristin leads a team of Process Improvement Specialists for IEHP, focusing on improving the organization’s delivery of service.

Running for Redlands Unified School Board

Kristin is well-suited for the role of School Board member. She will use leadership skills she honed in healthcare to advocate for kids and for a quality education for all.  She will work to keep kids safe from sexual predators and hold adults accountable for inappropriate relationships with students. She understands the toll that bullying and cyberbullying are having on our children. She will seek the resources to ensure schools are attending to the emotional needs of victims of bullying and helping those who bully.  She will use her collaboration skills to strengthen the connection between families and the schools, focusing on parents who work more than one job and building connections with families of Special Needs kids.

Key Priorities

·         Safe Schools

·         Quality education for students of every race, learning ability and gender    identity

·        Protecting children from bullies and sexual predators
