My Top 3 Priorities

  • Addressing homelessness and our housing crisis
  • Improving our transportation infrastructure
  • Improving the efficiency of social services to more effectively fight poverty in Alameda County

Profession:State Senator, Former Fremont Vice Mayor
State Senator, State of California — Elected position (2014–current)
Bankruptcy Attorney, Law Offices of Robert A. Wieckowski (2005–2016)
State Assemblymember, State of California — Elected position (2010–2014)
City Councilmember, City of Fremont — Elected position (2004–2010)

Santa Clara University J.D. (1985)
University of California, Berkeley Bachelor of Arts, Political Science (1977)

Bob Wieckowski currently represents the 10th Senate District in the California State Senate. In the Senate, he has led the effort to take on income inequality  by focusing on easing the debt burden for struggling Californians, and introducing a host of consumer protection bills to level the playing field for those most vulnerable in our State.

As former Chair of the State Senate's Environmental Quality Committee, Bob Wieckowski put us on the fast-track to be a global leader on climate action, by implementing mitigation strategies, investing in climate research and development, and maximizing greenhouse gas reductions to power our clean energy economy.

As a strong believer that education should be a pathway OUT of poverty, not a pathway INTO poverty, Bob Wieckowski has fought in Sacramento to make college more affordable by increasing grants to college-bound students, and taking on the banks that have plunged thousands of students into crippling student loan debt.

His work in Sacramento championing progressive causes has recently earned him a 100% Scorecard Rating by the California Labor Federation and the League of Conservation Voters.

And he's just getting started.

He is a Former Vice Mayor for the City of Fremont, and has served in the State Legislature since 2010. He is also a bankruptcy attorney, who has helped hundreds of families through economic hardship, keep their homes and live with dignity.

He received his B.A. from University of CA, Berkeley and his J.D. from Santa Clara University Law School. Mr. Wieckowski lives in Fremont with his wife, Sue.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Bob Wieckowski is a registered Democrat and has been a local leader in the Alameda County Democratic Party over the last two decades. Bob first ran for the Fremont City Council, where he used his seat to begin his legislative fight against climate change, passing resolutions to ban plastic bags and single use styrofoam throughout the city. In 2010, Wieckowski won his race for the State Assembly, and has been serving as a champion for working families in Sacramento ever since.

Bob Wieckowski has used his ten years in the State Legislature to be a forward thinker, finding new ways to fight for the underdog. Bob has led the fight in the Senate on climate adaptation and resilience, because he understands that we need to prepare for the effects of climate change while also working to cut our emissions and move to clean energy. Bob is a champion of environmental justice because he knows that we need to protect our communities most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Aside from his work on climate, Bob Wieckowski has also been a leader on housing issues. Some of Bob's most notable work has to do with cutting fees and red tape around building accessory dwelling units (ADUs), which offer an affordably priced unit, while also increasing our housing supply in a way that doesn't require massive development. Senator Wieckowski has also voted to expand Medi-Cal twice, has authored and passed legislation to keep people out of poverty, and will continue his fight for the underdog as County Supervisor.

On the Board of Supervisors, Bob Wieckowski wants to address our countywide homelessness and housing affordability problems. He will bring his experience working on California's state budget to the County, where he will oversee the social services that the state has provided funding for. Bob also supports Valley Link, BART and ACE expansion, and will think regionally about how to solve our transportation issues. Bob Wieckowski looks to fully fund our County hospitals and will ensure that our healthcare non-profits and community health centers also receive the funding they need to provide quality care to our residents. Bob also understands that the County is in a unique position to address our mental health crisis, especially in our teenagers and young adults, and will work to ensure all residents of Alameda County have access to the care they need.

Bob Wieckowski would be honored to have your vote on March 3rd, and promises to be a fighter for all of Alameda County while serving on the Board of Supervisors.
