Profession:Environmental Community Organizer
East Oakland Community Organizer, Communicates for a Better Environment (2016–current)

Esther is an Oakland native, a parent of three, and a health and justice advocate who says it’s time for positive change in her county of Alameda! I was born in Alameda County and raised in East Oakland, she is grounded in community and know about the connection to the health of people and the environment. Esther has volunteered many hours to various local organizations and county initiatives over the years on matters such as healthy food and local farm sourcing, air quality and environmental health, true public safety, etc. While my passion for advocacy comes from lived experience, the transferable skills from my community work include community-based, participatory research, leadership development, event planning, public speaking, budget, and policy review, strategic planning. For the past 3 years, she been the East Oakland organizer with Communities for a Better Environment and has been a member Advocate/ Activist/ Freedom fighter with the organization for 8 years. Esther has been on the Healthy Development Guidelines Project Management Team since 2014 as a member of CBE and staff since 2016, this tool specifies standards and guidelines across a broad range of health and equity-related issues including housing, employment, environmental health, and food access. Several of the guidelines are being collaboratively worked with the City of Oakland Planning Department to become legislation. Esther became more focused and learned to educate and organize her community about the climate emergency, environmental racism and the poor land-use policy or lack thereof. Esther has served on boards and partnered with other organizations and many other coalitions to improve the health of residents. We must,“Stop Pollution and Just Transition” for real change. “My actions are my only true belongings” - Thich Nhat Hanh. this quote is something Esther stands by.
