My Top 3 Priorities

  • Ending America's long-standing foreign policy of regime change wars
  • a new century of peace and prosperity, where we all have clean air to breathe, water to drink, and food to eat
  • where all are treated equally and have respect for each other regardless of our race, nationality, how we worship or who we love

Experience

Biography

Tulsi is the first female combat veteran to ever run for president and the first female combat veteran ever elected to Congress, along with Tammy Duckworth.  Gabbard has served for seven years on the Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, and Homeland Security Committees, where she's been intimately involved with sensitive, national security issues.  A war veteran of two tours of duty in the Middle East and presently a major in the US Army National Guard, Gabbard is an outspoken critic of regime change wars and the new cold war.  Surrounded by swaying palm trees, pounding surf, and luscious mountain ranges on Tutuila Island, Tulsi was born to Carol and Mike Gabbard as the fourth of five children.  Growing up in Hawaii, Tulsi was surrounded by one of the most ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse places in the world. One simple idea unifies so many unique people—Aloha.  Having experienced first-hand the true cost of war, Tulsi made a personal vow to find a way to ensure that our country doesn’t continue repeating the mistakes of the past, sending our troops into war without a clear mission, strategy, or purpose.  Tulsi entered the race as a clear underdog against a well-established candidate, ran a positive campaign focused on servant leadership in the spirit of aloha, and won a resounding victory.  Tulsi has approached every issue through the lens of what will best serve the American people, secure our country, and promote peace.  I was raised in a multi-faith family studying both the Christian and Hindu scriptures. We observed Christmas and Janmastami (the birth of Jesus and the birth of Krishna).

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Answer from Tulsi Gabbard:

Are you sick of seeing your hard-earned tax dollars being wasted on wars that have nothing to do with us?

Are you tired of the needs of people overseas are being prioritized when so many people in America are badly in need?

I agree Americans are not being prioritized. I therefore pledge to be your voice in Washington. I will put an end to the failed policy of being the world’s police and nation builder, redirecting the trillions of dollars wasted on wasteful wars and weapons. I will ensure these funds will be redirected back to us at home and spent on building a cleaner, safer, healthier America.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Answer from Tulsi Gabbard:

Are you terrified about the rising costs of your medicine and worried you won’t be able to afford it for you or your family?

Are you pretty happy with your healthcare plan and worried you might lose it under a new administration?

Do you think healthcare in America rewards those who make bad health choices?

As President, I will make healthcare my upmost priority, and ensure all Americans have an inclusive, affordable healthcare plan that will be there for them when they and their family most need it. I support a single-payer system that will allow individuals to access private insurance if they choose. I will also incentivize good health choices and lifestyles for a healthier, wealthier nation!

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the President.
Answer from Tulsi Gabbard:

Do believe in fair, merit based immigration system?

Do you know someone who has been an outstanding member of society that has been deported?

Are you caught in uncertainty of having been caught our nation’s broken immigration system have been fighting to adjust your immigration status, but not able to?

Despite the obstacles ― and, trust me, there are plenty ― I was able to graduate from high school, undergrad and graduate school. But those were different times.

On immigration, I will not accept the false choice between compassion and security that is currently being offered to us. It will be my policy to balance border security, have an asylum process that reflects our values as a nation of immigrants, and include a path to legal status for DREAMers.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Join me in ushering in a new century free from the fear of nuclear war, in a world where there is real peace, where our people have time to pursue happiness rather than being forced to work constantly just to survive, where parents have time to spend with their children, and where we build strong communities that care for each other and the planet.

In this new century, everyone has clean water to drink, clean air to breathe and access to nourishing food; everyone receives the medical care they need, has a roof over their head, receives the education they need and is able to find good paying, fulfilling work. People have financial security and don’t have to worry about making ends meet in their old age.

Our children, and children for generations to come, never worry again about nuclear war and no parent has to wonder where they will hide their children when the missiles strike. Our economy is not dependent on war, but is driven instead by innovation, green technology and renewable industries.

Our schools, parks and streets are safe so that our children can learn and play without fear; our first responders act as servants and protectors of the people, the community respects their service and sacrifice and we truly have justice for all.

We experience a purpose higher than just survival, our success in life is measured by our happiness and fulfillment rather than accumulation of wealth and status. We love and care for our neighbors, and respect each other regardless of the color of our skin, how we worship or who we love and we place as much value on character as we do on consumption.

In this new century, we work out our differences with one another with mutual respect and tolerance;  we negotiate with other nations and resolve problems through compromise and diplomacy. We overcome the current pulling us toward war, and usher in a new era of international peace and prosperity built not on conflict but on cooperation.
