My Top 3 Priorities

  • Better regulations on industrial polluters emitting toxins like Chromium-6.
  • Public safety solutions for street racing.
  • More support for our local business community by streamlining government processes and being proactive with business owners.

Profession:Public Safety Commissioner

Public Safety Commissioner, Public Safety Commission of Paramount — Appointed position (2017–2020)
Logistics Analyst, Xerox Corporation (1987–2017)

Community Activities

Treasurer, H.A.P.A. (Hispanic Alliance for Professional Advancement (2016–current)
Member, Paramount Emergency Response Team (2019–current)
Student Liason, H.A.P.A. (Hispanic Alliance for Professional Advancement) (2010–2016)

A lifelong Paramount resident, Moses Huerta serves as Chair of the Public Safety Commission where he actively works with residents on safety issues. He is also a member of the City’s Emergency Response Team.

Huerta completed a 30-year career at Xerox Corporation, where his work ethic helped him to advance from Stock Handler to Logistics Analyst. For the past ten years, he has been involved with H.A.P.A. (Hispanic Alliance for Professional Advancement) championing students in technology careers. Huerta owes his success to a Paramount job program that connected him with Xerox as a teen.  As a city council member, he will work to bring job programs back to Paramount to ensure that all of our young people have a chance to succeed.

With our current environmental challenges, we need someone in the city council who understands hazardous materials such as Chromium-6 and can discuss smart solutions to these threats on public health. Huerta is certified in SCAQMD Rule 1469 safety training, the same training required of companies who use these chemical pollutants daily, and he supports stronger regulations on companies that pollute our air.

Air Pollution in Paramount

The air pollution issue in Paramount, how it came to be, who is affected, and what we can do about it.

In 2014, high levels of Chromium-6 and other toxins were detected in Paramount by the SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management Department). Chromium-6 is a known carcinogen. This discovery was made thanks to the activism of a Paramount school teacher, Lisa Lappin, who has endorsed Moses Huerta.

Paramount, CA has more industrial companies that any other city in the greater LA area, and is currently home to a largely working class, Hispanic community. For many years, residents have observed high rates of cancer in residents that live in close proximity to one of the large industrial companies.
