Biografía

Alex Lee (李天明) is a progressive Democratic candidate for Assembly District 25 with a proven record as a legislative advocate. He is a South Bay native who has worked as a Legislative Policy Advisor in the California State Senate and Assembly. Alex has worked on issues including public safety, housing, education, and climate change. He has used his voice to advocate for South Bay Area residents, and he’s ready to take the fight for a better Bay Area to Sacramento.

Alex has called the South Bay home for his entire life. His family arrived in California when they migrated from Hong Kong. They found a new place to call home in Silicon Valley, welcomed by the bountiful opportunities and a strong Asian community. Encouraged by the inclusive environment of Silicon Valley, Alex currently lives in his hometown openly as a member of the LGBTQ community.

Alex’s unique experience working in the state legislature makes him the perfect choice for Assembly District 25. He has been an advocate, representative, and legislative advisor, and will be ready from day one to address the growing issues in housing, homelessness, traffic, education, and climate change.  Alex grew up in both Milpitas & San José and attended public schools in the community his whole life. He graduated from Milpitas High School and studied communications and political science at the University of California, Davis where he was elected Student Body President. In this role he advocated for lowering tuition, increased student services, and tackled the local housing scarcity and affordability crisis— all while closing the structural deficit of the $13 million budget of the student association.

While at UC Davis, Alex also interned at the district office of former Congressman Mike Honda and with several California state legislators. The experience of working in both policy and people orientated spaces gave Alex a holistic view of the role of government offices.

After graduating from UC Davis Alex was soon hired by the office of State Senator Henry Stern where he worked on legislation related to public safety, education, housing, and seniors.

In the Capitol, important policy was crafted, but Alex felt disconnected from everyday residents. Spurred by this call, he returned home to the Bay Area as a field representative for Assemblymember Evan Low where he worked with San José residents on issues such as homelessness, transportation, and public safety.

Filosofía política

The quality of life in the Bay Area for the next decades will be determined by the policy choices our reprresentatives make today. With my unique policy experience in the State Assembly & State Senate, I will legislative and adovacate for our community on the critical issues of today.

I'm running for Assembly because our community is frustrated.

In the fifth largest economy in the world, 1 in 5 Californians live in poverty. Righht here in my home county, 1 in 5 residents pay over 50% of their income on housing.

So it's clear: we're suffering from an unprecedented Housing Affordability Crisis.

And what's also clear is our community can no longer wait for incremental chane or half measures anymore.

So as the only candidate to have served in the State Assembly and State Senate as a legislative policy advisor, I am going to hit the ground running on day one to realize housing as a real human right.
