Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Answer from Richard B. Fox:

Infrastructure should be financed by those who use it and not by general revenues or general obligation borrowing. Nor should the money that is appropriated by wasted by spending it foolishly, such as on high-speed rail and other projects that cannot possibly pay for themselves, just because some politicians want to be "green." If it can't pay for itself, don't build it.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Answer from Richard B. Fox:

I support allowing everyone to have a Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) financed by private funds for those who can afford it and by public funds for the medically indigent. A CDHP provides funds for patients to chose for themselves where they want to go for health care and what they want to spend, no networks or requirements to go to public charity clinics, and to keep for themselves the funds that they don't spend, saving those funds for future needs. Everyone in Singapore, which is a very wealthy country with a per capita Gross Domestic Product 60% greater than that of the U.S., has a CDHP and they get better health outcomes while spending about one fourth as much as the U.S. spends. There is no excuse for the fact that we spend so much to get such poor outcomes except that the hospitals, public and private, have set it up that way to make lots of money for themselves.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House of Representatives.
Answer from Richard B. Fox:

Most voters reject open borders. Other than that, there is no consensus in the U.S. as to if, or how, immigration policy should be changed, or even enforced. We have some states, such as California, who are "sanctuaries" from immigration law but even California does not want open borders. I would not support any change in policy until there is some consensus on this issue.

Summary

My ballot statement with minor updates.

Richard B. Fox, Physician, Attorney

Libertarian Republican; Pro-Choice; Supporting Roe v. Wade; Embracing Diversity, Opposing Socialism.

California Democrats promise “social justice” but give us social misery: highest cost of living; highest housing costs, highest healthcare costs, highest gas prices, highest state sales tax rate in the U.S., shocking electricity rates, blackouts, wildfires, homelessness, rampant crime, trashy, crumbling roads, doubling down on failed programs with more dumb, expensive, programs; only vision for America is turning it into the streets of San Francisco, Oakland, LA.

California Democrats’ socialist programs kill jobs, opportunities, prosperity, hope, dreams, dignity, and self-respect for struggling Millennials and persons of color. Free enterprise, not more failed socialist programs, provides the way out for them and all others.

Their solution to high cost of living in California is price and rent controls; never works, just more government regulation; the only real solution to high cost of living in California is deregulation, cutting taxes, always works.

Our local healthcare costs are 82% above national average because of over-regulation that stifles competition.

Democrats want government takeover of healthcare: give up your family’s private insurance to get government rationed healthcare, like waiting in line for your healthcare at the DMV, take a number; you pay huge new taxes for others’ free care.

The only real solution is a Consumer-Directed Health Plan with HSA/HRA option for all; you decide what you want, where you want to go, what you want to pay, no networks; stay healthy and keep the savings, cut your costs in half.

School vouchers for all kids, let parents choose their kids’ schools, better results, costs less.

Socialism sounds great-like Santa Claus, never works in reality, always takes your freedom.
