My Top 3 Priorities

  • Complete Legalization of Marijuana Federally and the release of all non-violent marijuana offenders. The creation of federal licenses for growers and sellers with a jobs program for those formerly incarcerated.
  • Climate Action through public works projects that involve social justice through cleaning up of waste sites and infrastructure projects like public housing.
  • Education, healthcare, clean safe housing, and healthy nutrition are a universal human right. Obesity is more about food insecurity and a lack of choice than it is about gluttony.

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Answer from Joseph R. Fountain:

We need to increase taxes on corporations and create a system in which they are contributing 40% of all the taxes collected by the federal government or to put it in terms of how much they should have paid in 2018, it would have been an additional 900 Billion dollars. Corporations have never paid so little of their share to the government in the last 100 years.

We need a massive investment in infrastructure. A proposal I have would be to build a sea-level canal to the Salton sea and build desalinating plants and solar-powered steam systems to produce power and desalinate the water. This would create a micro-climate and increase rainfall in desert areas and bring back agriculture that has been hurt by droughts and climate change.

In California, there have been a number of wild first caused by power lines. One of the problems California has is the private power companies produce power and own the power lines. That a bad idea. Two separate entities should own the power lines and one should own power production. The reason for this is because as we try to change to renewables, the companies that own the lines do not want to allow for power from solar to enter the grid. They lose money when that happens. However, if we broke up the power monopolies and charged for these services separately, it would increase competition and lower prices.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Answer from Joseph R. Fountain:

I support Medicare for All. I am concerned however that if we cannot pass this piece of legislation in the first 6 months and get it through the Senate, we are going to lose the house in 2022. This game has happened before. I think we need new leadership in the Senate and that is the only way to get this passed. If Sanders wins, and we can take the Senate, then we will be able to pass Medicare for all. However, if we cannot do that, then we must change Medicaid and make it available to everyone in the same fashion as how you would sign up for medicare. Medicaid and Medicare would become one system and everyone who does not have 100% employer paid for dental, optical, healthcare with a zero deductible, zero copays would automatically qualify. Over time this program would put the insurance industry out of business.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House of Representatives.
Answer from Joseph R. Fountain:
Immigration-No Person is Illegal

Social Security, Federal and State Income Taxes and local sales taxes all benefit from the mistreatment of undocumented workers.

“Employers and the federal and state government knowingly benefits on the backs of undocumented workers. Billions of dollars in taxes and social security payments get collected, and the government knows when these monies are being collected that the social security numbers are fake. The government knows they will never have to pay these monies back, and to me that is stealing. Employers know the numbers are fake and they let undocumented workers buy new numbers. They all partake in this insidious activity on the backs of workers, because they all make money from it.”

 Simple Solutions

Give amnesty to all workers who can show they have paid into social security and federal income taxes for greater than 2 years. Ensure they have full access to these monies. Penalize the companies that have abused these workers with a fine of no less than $5,000 per employee and ensure the employee is allowed to keep their job.

In industries in which there are labor unions: provide for an instrument in which that company will become a unionized job site or risk being shut down. Another option is to form a cooperative business.

The undocumented worker shall have a fast track to US citizenship.

All undocumented workers will be encouraged to come forward and report their employers. There will be a limited amnesty period for workers and they will be protected from employer abuse and attack. Deportations will stop.

If Melania Trump can become a US citizen after lying on her visa application, and her mother and father can benefit from chain migration then everyone needs to be treated the same.

When undocumented workers pay billions of dollars in taxes and social security they will never benefit and veterans who wore the uniform and served our nation can get deported. While Jeff Bezos can make 11 Billion dollars and pay $0 in federal income taxes. We need to support the immigrant as Jesus said, and deport Bezos. Who is the real parasite?
