Nolan Jamora for Gardena City Council

Home Grown Leadership

Gardena is a diverse and amazing city with great potential for growth and prosperity.  My roots run deep here and I want to make sure Gardena stays safe and continues to grow and prosper for future generations.  As your Planning & Development Commissioner the last four years, I understand the growth and improvements we need in our city as well as the budgetary concerns we face.

I am seeking election to the City Council because I believe that my leadership skills, planning and development knowledge, business, and political experiences bring an important balance to the city. I am well versed on the inner workings of Gardena, the budget and needs of both business and the community, and have 30 years of management business experience to draw upon.

For over 43 years, since my family moved to Gardena when I was 6 years old I have called Gardena my home. My family is here. My home is here. I attended school here and I earn my living here.. That is the reason I served as your Planning & Development Commissioner and am now seeking a seat on the Gardena for City Council.

As Councilman I will focus on these strategic areas:

Improve Public Safety -

Working to increase the number of police officers to keep up with new home developments.

Continue support for the Neighborhood Watch and Coffee with a Cop Programs while adding a Council Representative to encourage more involvement and communication.

Working to promote transparency and oversight between the Police and residents.

Making sure the police department has all the equipment needed to safely protect our neighborhoods

Construction of a New Police Facility and Senior Center

Moving forward with construction of a new 35,000 sq. ft. Police Facility and 6,600 sq. ft. Senior Community Center while the budget is in place and costs are stable.

Making sure the cost and construction numbers are correct and fiscally responsible.

Enhance Residents’ Quality of Life through Controlled Development

Not over developing in single family home neighborhoods.

Making sure every development adheres to strict parking guidelines.

Focusing on developments that raise property values and provides needed amenities to our community.

Actively pursue new commercial development with an emphasis in North Gardena.

Create new city branding to attract a stronger commercial revenue base.

City Council Accountability and Fiscal Responsibility –

Provide much needed transparent information on city finances and services.

Hold Town Hall meetings in neighborhoods to explain the budget and have stronger communication with residents over concerns and recommendations.

Have an open door policy daily to meet with individuals or groups to discuss council actions.

A Vision for the Future –

Re-brand the city to appeal to new residents and businesses.

Develop new ideas to attract businesses with strong commercial revenue.

Re-focus Economic Development on small business and entrepreneurs as well as the Tech industry.

Fight with the state to get our toxic sites along Artesia Blvd cleaned up and usable for new commercial developments.

Create a working group of Council Members, School Officials, Business and Community Leaders to work together to improve our schools and fight for much needed resources.

My Personal Commitment to You

I chose to run for City Council because in the last 4 years on the Planning Commission I realized our community needs fair and unbiased representation!

All too often in local city politics I have seen decisions made that go against the good of the community for the benefit of big business or other outside factions. When faced with making a decision I always ask myself “is this decision good for the community, good for the seniors, good for the children, good for the future and who benefits from this decision?” When faced with those questions the answer is always clear for me and the decision is easy.

My record as your Planning Commissioner shows that I never was late or missed a meeting in 4 years and I have never abstained on a vote. As your representative on the commission it is my duty to be the most informed as I can be and to never abdicate my responsibility and pass the buck to someone else as some of my peers have.

As a businessman in a high pressure environment, I have developed my skills as a team builder, negotiator and problem solver. I will use these tools to make the right decisions needed to manage the city’s resources and provide the best quality of life to the residents of Gardena. I will serve you with honesty, respect and integrity and I will never compromise my values or commitment to you.

I have the knowledge, experience, and common sense to provide quality leadership, and ask for your vote on March 7th.
