Political Beliefs

Position Papers

City Manager and New Police Department and Senior Center

The hiring of the new city manager and the building of the new police station and senior center

1st Position

I believe the hiring of the new city manager should be through an open bid process. We need to do a national search for the best qualified candidate with concentrated experience as a city manager, one that will bring a fresh vision to move the city of Gardena forward. I respect the fact that Chief Medrano is uniquely qualified for this position. However, it does not make him the only candidate or the best qualified candidate. Gardena residents and businesses desereve the best and we must our due diligence to search, hire and give them the best.

2nd Poistion

I agree that we need a new police department and a place for our seniors to meet. However, I do not agree to spend 3/4 of the city's reserve to build this project. When you look at the intended design and the specification for the structure of this project, I believe it was under bided and will cost the remaing $6million dollars. Spending $21million of $27million with no plans to rebuild these funds is just not a good financial decision to me. This will leave the city with no savings fro a rainy day.
