Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (5)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Respuesta de Douglas Hassett:

The first thing I would do is identify where government is wasting tax dollars or subject to fraud.  Our government is mired in waste/over spending and fraud to the tune of one trillion plus dollars per year.  Identifying these leaks of taxpayer dollars and streamling every level of government is where I would start looking for the funds needed to repair/improve or add new infrastructure.  Like every other business in America, if you don't have the money you don't spend it.  You look for waste and decide what items in the budget can be done without.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages secure affordable health care?
Respuesta de Douglas Hassett:

I support the idea of a competition based, free market system that encourages purchasing health insurance across state lines.  A competitive market place for insurance offers we the people options in products, pricing and promotes efficency within the market.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House.
Respuesta de Douglas Hassett:

First and foremost, secure our borders and enforce our current immigration laws and processes.  I would also support a pathway to citizenship (for illegal aliens in the country) that defines a given timeline to obtain citizenship, outlines procedures, and creates an immigration tax.  The tax sunsets when the immigrant acquires citizenship.

What programs or legislation would you support to meet the water needs of Californians and the federal water project infrastructure in California?
Respuesta de Douglas Hassett:

I would support legislation to build more reservoirs in California, capture more water and put farmers back to work growing food and not fallowing ground.  We are now paying farmers to fallow fields so we can send more water to meet the needs of Los Angels.  This needs to stop.  We need capture more water and let farmers farm.

According to a "Civility In America” survey, 75% of Americans believe that the U.S. has a major civility problem. If you are elected what will do to address this?
Respuesta de Douglas Hassett:

Civility in America has gone to heck in handbasket.  Lack of civility (hate) is usually born out of fear.  I hate you because I fear how you will affect my life.  Becuase I hate you I can't be civil.  This is a big question requiring a very comprehensive answer, but in short, where can we find common ground that elliminates the fear.  For almost all of us, we are united in many shared values.  One of those values is the desire to see our children recieve a good education.  In that education if we spend more time taking away the fear, we will create a more civil society.

The Salton Sea is heavily polluted, high in salinity and is dying.  As of January 1, 2018 there will no longer be a source of water feeding the Sea.  Becuase of this the Sea is subject to great evaporation leaving a shoreline that is contaminated with many chemicles.  Due to well known windy conditions in the desert, the fine particulates of contaminated shorline are pushed into the air and become hazardous to humans causing many respritory related health problems.  The Sea can be fixed, it will take billions of dollars, but needs to be done to protect the health of residents and the economic stability of surrounding communities.
